Reading is the best way to build a strong mind. Developing reading skills early on can have lifelong benefits for your child's brain, enhancing imagination and generating more creative ideas. Nursery in Mussafah will help your child develop these skills and instill the importance of reading.

How To Build A Reading Habit In Kids?

As parents, you can take the initiative to create a change from home in order to build the habit of reading. There are a few ways by which you can unfold this habit:

  • Start the habit of reading at the earliest
  • Make reading time a routine and ensure that it is enjoyable for both of you
  • Let the kids choose the books they want to read
  • Have them respond to the pictures in the books
  • Set an example and show them the enthusiasm in reading
  • Listen to your child as they read
  • Give them the space to be creative and connect with the characters
  • After reading a story, continue discussing the story to build a love for reading

1. Start the habit of reading at the earliest: Instilling a pattern or a ritual at an early age can create a more significant impact. Reading to kids early on can build interest over time and help them absorb the essence of the habit.

2. Make reading time a routine and ensure that it is enjoyable for both of you: Reading something together with your kid creates a special bond. It can be a quality time that can be enjoyable for both of you.

3. Let the kids choose the books they want to read: The kid’s interest will be different from yours. So, give them the chance to select any book from a collection so that they will have the interest to read.

4. Have them respond to the pictures in the books: The books they prefer at a young age are mainly filled with colours and graphics. It helps them connect with the story, learn about different visual appearances, and grasp the colours. While reading with your kid, communicate with them and have them decode the pictures in the book. It will also help foster creative thinking in your child.

5. Set an example and show them the enthusiasm for reading: In your free time, rather than sitting in front of your mobile or television, read books. This will create an impression in the kid’s minds as you set an example for them.

6. Listen to your child as they read: Reading out loud is one thing and correcting their mistakes is what comes after. Listen to your child when they read and teach them the correct pronunciation.

7. Give them the space to be creative and connect with the characters: Creating backstories or climaxes on your own is fun. Let the kids connect with the characters and be creative with them. Don’t restrict them from doing anything out of the box.

8. After reading a story, continue discussing the story to build a love for reading: Do not end the reading session abruptly as the story ends. Carry the scene forward and discuss it with the kids. Maybe even imparting the morals learned from the books can create a difference in their lives and strengthen their love for reading.
